THE STORY:

TEEN DIARIES FOUNDATION INC wrote -

More than 23 million children and teenagers in the U.S. are obese or overweight, a statistic that health and medical experts consider an epidemic. While obesity rates have soared among all age groups in this country, obesity is a particularly grave concern for children. Childhood obesity puts nearly one third of America’s youth at early risk for Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and even stroke – conditions usually associated with adulthood.

It’s not too late for our children. Every March (Women's History Month), June, September (Childhood Obesity Awareness Month), and December (Giving Tuesday), students, educators, physicians, and parents take a stand and fight back with jumping jacks (September), jumping squats (December), jump roping (March), and burpees (June). This year, you can help bring the message back to your state, city, school, workplace and home with SWEAT MAKES CENTS.

What is Sweat Makes Cents?
Sweat Makes Cents is the Teen Diaries Foundation’s (TDF) quarterly fundraiser and childhood obesity awareness campaign. Participants complete as many jumping jacks (September), jumping squats (December), rope jumps (March), and burpees (June) as possible, post a short video of themselves in action on social media, and get friends, family, and followers to sponsor 10 cents for each move they complete. For example, 100 jumping jacks, jumping squats, rope jumps, or burpees helps a participant raise $10 for charity! Partcipants get a great full body workout and TDF uses the money (aka sweat equity) to fund fitness programs for teen girls nationwide and award student scholarships.

When is Sweat Makes Cents?
The fundraiser happens during the months of March (Women's History Month), June, September (Childhood Obesity Month), and December!

Who participates?
Everyone participates! Principals can create a fundraiser page for their school, a fitness instructor can sign up for her class, a football team can kick off their commitment, or you can sign up as an individual. Anyone, at any age, or any gender can show their support!

What can you do to help?
Don't want to create a team fundraising page? You can just make a contribution to the cause and/or help recruit sponsors for the organization through social media. Spread the word!

Is there a fundraising goal?
Each season, our goal is to raise $25,000. With a $25 sponsorship from 4,000 participants, the Teen Diaries Foundation can raise $100,000 annually and help 10 college campuses and 3,500 female high school students get moving across America.

Where does the money go?
For our Sweat Makes Cents Winter 2015 Jumping Squat Challenge, $10,000 provides college scholarships to Teen Reporters in  our program who research, create, and publish inspiring and educational content for 9 consecutive months to over 200,000 unique readers that visit PrettyGirlsSweat.com. $3,000 provides college scholarships to the top performing Pretty Girls Sweat ambassadors at one of the following college campuses: Binghamton University, County College of Morris, Fisk University, Howard University,  Montclair State University, University at Buffalo, and Temple University. The remaining $12,000 funds fitness programs for over 600 female, high school students in the states of Georgia and New Jersey during the spring semester.
