Healthy sleep is vital to children's physical, cognitive, and social development. Sadly, without intervention, many of our community's most vulnerable children are unable to get the sleep they need for good health and school success. Doesn't every child deserve a chance to reap the benefits of a good night's sleep?
Sweet Dreamzzz's sleep education programs help low-income preschool/K-5 students, parents, and teachers work together so that children are able to follow a bedtime routine and develop healthy sleep habits that last a lifetime. In addition to sleep education, participating families receive practical, bedtime materials (blankets, books, nightshirts, toothbrushes, teaching teddy bears, etc.) so that financial barriers don't prevent children from having the warmth, comfort, and hygiene they need to sleep well each night.
Director of Michigan Medicine's Sleep Disorders Center, and Sweet Dreamzzz Board member, Dr. Ronald Chervin, notes “…sleep health is every bit as important as nutrition and exercise to the health and well-being of young Americans. Glaring sleep needs of American youngsters in challenging urban environments have long been ignored. This is one area where a little effort can still make a huge difference.”
Providing sleep education and bedtime basics is such a simple solution for helping children reach their fullest potential, and research shows that our programs really do empower children to get more sleep! Please support Sweet Dreamzzz as we help disadvantaged children get the sleep they need to be healthy, happy, and ready to learn. Together, we can help children succeed in school and in life. Thank you!
