Throughout my career in education I have always been motivated to make a difference in a meaningful and impactful way. Three years ago I joined Waterside School in Stamford, CT. Waterside is an independent school unlike any other, where families from historically underrepresented backgrounds have access to quality education without the burden of cost.
Recently, “Grit and Resilience” have received wide acclaim for being key contributors to student success. Every day the students at Waterside School inspire me. Instead of shrinking away from a challenge, these children embrace their daily commitment to “work hard, be kind, and respect learning.” In August, I have decided to test my own “grit and resilience” by completing IRONMAN in Boulder, Colorado. It is fitting then that I dedicate my effort to them through: Swim, Bike, Run for Waterside.
In addition, I am committed to raising $10,000 to launch a new scholarship in honor of former Waterside parent, Marlene Lappots. Earlier this fall, Marlene lost her life to cancer, leaving behind her daughter and Waterside graduate, Reyana (Class of 2013) and her son, Ryan. Marlene was a devoted mother, loyal friend, and caring sister who embodied the quality and commitment Waterside demands from it parents.
I am reaching out to any and all asking for financial support. Your generosity will go along way toward ensuring that our students’ talents and rigorous efforts - not their circumstances - will shape their futures and dreams.
