Hey! Welcome to my fundraising page!
In just a few weeks, at the end of October (and right before the election!) I will be running the Marine Corps Marathon to benefit StreetWise Partners.
Thanks so much for stopping by; below is some more information about the organization and why I am running to benefit them. StreetWise Partners has been a big part of my life for several years, but more importantly, I have seen it transform the lives of countless others. Any contribution would be most appreciated and really make a difference to those who StreetWise Partners works with.
Thank you again for stopping by; your generous donations are greatly and truly appreciated.
So...why are you running this marathon for StreetWise Partners?
I've been volunteering with StreetWise Partners since 2010 and over the past four years, I have seen this organization become even stronger and change the lives of countless individuals through its signature Career Ventures program. I really believe in what the organization does and wanted to be able to give back to them in another way, beyond the work I do with them as a volunteer. Some were skeptical about training for a marathon during election season and they were right - it wasn’t easy (including 1 MRI, lots of tears, 2 pairs of shoes, 1 fanny-pack, and a knee brace), but it has also been so rewarding and I’m so excited that the marathon is now only a few weeks away.
And what exactly does StreetWise Partners do?
StreetWise Partners transforms the lives of low-income folks in the DC metro area by teaching them career skills and boosting their confidence. Here’s the official blurb:
StreetWise Partners transforms the lives of disadvantaged, low-income individuals by helping them realize their career potential. Our signature program, Career Ventures, serves low-income individuals who are ready to overcome barriers to employment and transform their lives. This unique 3-month career mentoring program delivers high-impact professional development services with 2:1 career mentoring in corporate settings.
StreetWise Partners’ objectives include the following:
- Eliminate the gap between an individual’s potential and his/her current position;
- Expose individuals to people from different cultures and backgrounds to encourage a deeper understanding of our local communities;
- Develop leaders in the private sector who have a keen understanding of and commitment to service to their community; and equip trainees to move into better, higher paying jobs with opportunities for advancement.
Wait! This sounds great – can I get involved?
Well, it’s funny you should ask. We have plenty of opportunities to volunteer with StreetWise Partners. The programs for this fall are all set on mentors, but we have several one-time opportunities coming up and for which you can sign up here: http://streetwisepartners.org/volunteer/one-time-volunteer-event/. If you’re interested in mentoring, we’ll be looking for mentors for our spring program in the new year. More information can be found here: http://streetwisepartners.org/volunteer/mentor/. And as always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
