Since November 2015 I have put many hours into helping families in need learn to grow, cook, and preserve their own food. Through the meetings and classes I have become so attached to these families and so deeply passionate about their success. This picture shows some of the wonderful children I was blessed to spend my summer growing food with and teaching. They children were so excited to harvest their first watermelon.
The Grow Food Where People Live program is not simply community gardening, it is community building. Those who grow with us gain empowerment and leadership skills, they meet their neighbors, they fight their depression, they feed their children, they learn their strengths and weaknesses....
The Grow Food Where People Live program has the potential to spread across our county and create a model for food systems and community strengthening at the county level. Your donation will help us continue our work and spread the knowledge, joy, and empowerment that comes with growing your own food.
Even if you only donate $10 dollars, if fifty people do it that is $500. If you donate $20 dollars, then we only need 25 people, you get the idea. Or if you are really ambitious you can start your own fundraiser and ask your friends and family to raise money for your birthday, wedding, etc.!
Your donation will be greatly appreciated by all those our program touches. Please consider donating even a small amount to keep families growing food and community together in Polk County, North Carolina.
