BENEFITING: CHLOE SANCTUARY FOR PARROTS AND COCKATOOS
ORGANIZER: CHLOE SANCTUARY FOR PARROTS AND COCKATOOS
Our latest rescue is Syndie, a Goffin's cockaoo. She has severe mutilation issues. Her vent area is a 2" diameter open wound. Melissa and I rushed her to the emergency avian vet and she received antibiotics, pain killers, an anti-inflammatory and Haldol. She will need extensive care. Infection is the number one killer of babies with feather destructive behavior.
We've paid the vet nearly $1000 in two days for Sydnie's care.
The tests needed included:
Radiology (that's what discovered why her right leg is not normal with little mobility.)
On Sunday she required many shots and an oral dose including:
She is on:
She is also wearing a protective collar to keep her from self-mutilation. This is a stop gap measure and cannot help in the long run. The Haldol, loving-kindness and behavior shaping will be the long term solutions. We hope that the Haldol (Halperidol) can eventually be discontinued, too.
Friends and supporters, I hate to tell you this but she has chewed on the base of her spine. Her condition is grave but the prognosis is a 75% chance of survival with proper care. Needless to say, we will do whatever we must with our without financial help. Can you spare a few dollars for this poor, neglected baby? In the picture below you see blood on her head that came from the huge open wound on her vent area. We are told that this could take a year to heal.
I beg you to help us with Sydnie. She is a beautiful spirit that wants to live. Help us bring her back to health, please! Donate today!
