Thank you for taking the time to visit my Crowdrise page. My name is Hassanatu Savage and I am teaming up with Ms. Marjorie Mogulescu to raise money for the International Rescue Committee (IRC). Below are small blurbs about why we decided to volunteer with the IRC, please consider donating... every dollar counts!
I am a recent graduate from the University of Maryland where I pursued a collaborative degree in Government and Politics and Arabic studies. In my junior year I worked on a year-long research project on the Syrian Refugee crisis which opened my eyes to how terrible the long-lasting impact the war in Syria has left on many of its' citizens. Many families are broken and forced to seek asylum for their own safety and make a foreign country their new home. It is my hope that being a mentor to these families will allow me to help lead the parents and children to a happier and prosperous future.
I am a Maryland Certified school psychologist. I have been employed by Prince George’s County Public Schools for the past twelve years. I have spent ten of the past twelve years working in an elementary school that has a program for special education students who have been classified as emotionally disabled and autistic. Prior to working in Prince George’s County Public Schools, I spent seven-and-a-half years as a school psychologist with Baltimore City Public Schools. I began my career in school psychology in a residential school run by the State of Connecticut's Dept. of Children and Families for adjudicated youths. My interest in volunteering stems from my reading and hearing news reports about Refugees and Asylees. I cannot fathom what these families have had to endure, both in their countries of origin, and on the journey to get to the United States. It is my hope that I will be able to help the family that I mentor deal with some of the challenges that the family faces be it registering a child in school, making a doctor’s appointment, and practicing English.
Thank you :)
