THE STORY:

Well of Hope CDC is home to the Paterson Syringe Access Program also known as Point of Hope. This Program follows the Harm Reduction Model to service our clients who are predominantely injection drug users (IDU's). We also service steroid users and diabetics who may be unable to afford syringes. The Harm Reduction Model is a set of practical strategies that reduce the negative consequences of drug use. It utilizes strategies from safer use, to managed use, to complete abstinence. These various strategies meet drug users "where they are at" by addressing conditions of use along with the use itself.

Funding Point of Hope, allows for Well of Hope to provide education to those accessing clean syringes and their risks while protecting them and the community. New Jersey has the 5th highest rate of HIV adults and the 3rd hightest rate of HIV among children. Having a fully functional Syringe Access Program not only allows for the prevention of HIV and Hepatitis C, but keeps our parks and areas where children are present clean of used syringes putting them at risk.
