Taj's trip with Free The Children to Nicaragua
Organized by: Taj Herzer-Baptiste
Hi, my name is Taj. I am 14 years old. I am part of Free The Children, a non-profit organization, based in Toronto, Canada, which helps impoverished children obtain education and basic living necessities. Through this assistance, many children are spared from forced labor, and sometimes, even prostitution. Free The Children works all over the world, and especially in Central America and West Africa. This summer I am going with Free The Children to Nicaragua to help build schools, wells, or whatever else is needed, by children near the capital city, Managua. I will be working with local children and communities. So far, I have started a chapter in my middle school and raised over $1000 for Free The Children projects. This year, I would really like to see what the projects are doing on the ground. I want to get to know the children in Nicaragua who are working on these projects themselves. I know many of them live in less fortunate circumstances than I do. I would like to understand their lives and learn from them. I am very excited about making new friends. One of my long term goals is to be a human rights activist. This trip will help me understand the different lives and living conditions of others. I think it may teach me that everyone has their own strengths and struggles. I would like to share my privileges and skills and, in the process, learn about children in impoversihed countries, and ultimately, about myself. My trip expenses are $5000 which will not only cover my personal expenses, but also fund the projects. Would you contribute to my cause?
