An Overview: Heart disease is the number two cause of death of women in Israel. Many women fail to recognize the symptoms of a heart attack, delaying their medical care, and increasing mortality. Additionally, religious women in Israel have increased risk factors for heart disease (increased obesity, sedentary lifestyles, diabetes, etc) and have limited access to accurate health information sources. Our Program: The Take Heart! Teacher Mobilization Project is a participatory-based intervention program, which aims to reduce the risk of heart disease and increase early diagnosis of heart attacks in women through increased knowledge and health behaviour change in female high school teachers. This project mobilizes teachers as potential agents of change, who will subsequently teach the information they have learned in this program to their students, and families, in years to come.
