The Story

EVENT DATE: Oct 01, 2016

5K WALK:  6:00 p.m

FREE BBQ:  7:00 p.m.

TREE LIGHTING:  7:30 p.m.

The Covington Domestic Violence Task Force is a 501(C)(3) organization formed in 2003 with a mission to promote a strong message that "Domestic Violence Has No Place in Our Community" through collaborative leadership, communication, education, and victim support services. Our goals are to provide direct services and 'safe nights' to victims of DV and their families and raise awareness of DV and how it affects the community as a whole.

Registration is $12.00 for individuals and $27.00 for families.  This includes a FREE T-shirt with logo to the FIRST 100 TO REGISTER and free BBQ for all.  What a deal!  We encourage families, school groups, and faith-based groups, to form a team for some healthy competition.  Your team may earn the grand cash prize for the Most Spirited Award by wearing the most purple or appropriate costume - so find your inner bling! Judges will announce individual and group prizes at 7:15 p.m. This course is flat and strollers are allowed. Pets are welcome but must be on a leash.

Following the "Take A Step Against DV 5K" walk is the 7th annual Purple Light Nights Tree Lighting event.  Our goal is to raise $5,000 this year and you can help us reach that goal by registering today. If you can't participate in the walk please consider giving a donation and help a victim to live a life free from abuse.

The task force created the PURPLE LIGHT NIGHTS campaign over ten years ago as a community awareness event to REMEMBER those who lost their lives to domestic violence; SUPPORT those who survived domestic violence, and give HOPE for those still living with abuse.  Shine a purple light on your front porch throughout October to show your support.  The campaign is now shown in cities in 38 states, Canada and Guam.
