BENEFITING: FOUNDATION FOR AFRICAN MEDICINE AND EDUCATION
Objective: Raising attention and support for the pioneering work of Foundation for African Medicine and Education
FAME’s story: FAME was founded in 2002 by Frank Artress and Susan Gustafson from the United States. Dr. Artress, an American physician, and his wife, Susan, decided to climb the highest peak in Africa for Frank’s 50th Birthday. Frank became severely ill with altitude sickness and was in a critical condition. With the incredible work of their guide and his team, he survived. Once back in the US, Susan and Frank decided to return to Tanzania and “contribute back to a people whose voice is rarely heard in the rest of the world, a people who have few opportunities to share their wisdom, their strength, and their dreams with the rest of us.” Watch this video to learn more.
