BENEFITING: HANG TOUGH FOUNDATION INC
I’m proud to be training for and participating in the Tallahassee Marathon in honor of my son, Grayson and the Hang Tough Foundation. As Grayson fought tirelessly for his health and his life, my personal health declined. I found myself emotionally eating and gaining weight as I coped with the new life ahead of us. Suddenly, it struck me. Grayson could not control his own health, however, I COULD control mine. I began exercising and eating right. I lost 30 pounds and in the process found a love and respect for running. It was my outlet. My stress relief. My processing time. I ran my first half marathon in February of 2015 at the Tallahassee Marathon/Half Marathon. I said I've never run another endurance event... In the meantime, during Grayson's battle with Leukemia, I saw a need in the the Tallahassee community for a resource for families going through a childhood medical crisis. The child with the chronic, life altering illness or special need is surrounded by great medical care and resources. However, the parents and the siblings often throw themselves into caring for the ill child so much that they neglect their own needs. Together, with Michelle Hart, the Hang Tough Foundation was created to fill this void and help keep the entire family strong and encourage them to Hang Tough. Recently, the Tallahassee Marathon announced that they have chosen Hang Tough Foundation as one of the charity recipients of the proceeds. Upon hearing the news, I was inspired! As a celebration for Grayson's end of treatment and remaining cancer-free and to support the Hang Tough Foundation--I have officially signed up to run a FULL marathon in February 2017. 26.2 miles. My theory? If Grayson can battle cancer and undergo treatment for a full 24 months of his short life-an overcome all odds including a 10% chance at survivial- I can run 26.2 miles. For my son, my hero. And now for Hang Tough Foundation and ALL the little heroes fighting BIG battles.
