BENEFITING: MYTEAM TRIUMPH
This is the fundraising team page for The Backyard Depot customers (as well as Tana and Mark's family and friends) to contribute.
Update 8/30/14: We (Tana and Mark) are overwhelmed by the support we have received from our family, friends and customers. It has been a very humbling experience. Because of the love and generosity that we have been shown, Ainsley's Angels provided us with a beautiful new running chair. There are not enough ways for us to show our appreciation. These races are so important to us and now we can finish them in comfort. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
We are fortuntate that we have such a wonderful network of people that contribute to our cause. There are many that have disabled family members who aren't blessed with the same type of network. We have now turned our efforts to fundraising for them. Those folks need the help, love and support too. Ainsley's Angels can do that but they need the money and resources to provide these important social experiences for their disabled participants. Please consider your donation as providing for someone to experience an activity that they would not otherwise get. Everyone deserves to be INCLUDED. Please help make that happen.
OUR STORY: Tana was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in June 2012. For those unaware, MS has no known cure. It is a debilitating disease in which the body's immune system eats away at the protective sheath (myelin) that covers the nerves. The damage to myelin causes interference in the communication between the brain, spinal cord and other areas of the body. This condition may result in deterioration of the nerves themselves, a process that's not reversible.
In the years prior to her diagnosis and over the last year Tana has experienced MS related challenges such as:
-muscle tremors (that sometimes make it difficult to write, eat, apply makeup, etc.);
-severe nerve pain;
-loss of coordination;
-difficulty walking or standing;
-heat related sensitivity;
In an effort to control the progression of the disease, Tana takes medication through injections and pills and uses physical therapy to help maintain muscle function and coordination.
Tana and Mark have decided to raise money and awareness by running in races around the Raleigh, NC area. Each race brings new excitement, enjoyment and accomplishment for them.
