Our team is in memory of Sgt. Tanner Stone Higgins.
Sgt. Tanner Higgins was killed April 14, 2012, from wounds sustained by enemy fire, while conducting combat operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Sgt. Higgins was a team leader assigned to Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. He was on his fourth deployment to Afghanistan and had deployed once to Iraq.
Sgt. Tanner Higgins was a Ranger, one of the best at that. As a Ranger he was strong, driven and fearless. But Tanner was so much more than that to all of us who loved him. He was a friend, a brother, a son, and a husband. He had a contagious smile and a laugh that he couldn't contain. He would try to tell stories but break into a fit of giggles that prevented him from even taking a breath. He was passionate about, well, everything. He would fight to prove his point and he would pout if things weren't going his way. He would bounce back quickly and in his Texan drawl start his next sentence, "Hey man..." and explain why he had been so momentarily hurt. He loved his wife Shelby fiercely. It was as if he wanted to shelter her from all the things that could hurt her, keep her safely tucked away and preserve her beauty and innocence. He loved his Mom, Patti, and brothers, Dillon and Noah, so much that he often dismissed the thought of plans with friends to spend time with them. He was unwavering in faith. He loved the Lord and he trusted in His plan. He made the people around him strive to be better- better soldiers, better friends, better spouses, better people.
We love Tanner, and we miss him dearly, and that is why we have chosen to participate in Run Ranger Run. Here is what we will do:
Be healthy. Have Fun. Make a Difference. My team has committted to being active for 565 miles in the month of February to let our service members know we are behind then in their transition to civilian life. Join us in the effort of supporting GallantFew and their mission.
