I can't believe it! I am signed up for my first ever marathon! And not just any marathon, the ING NYC Marathon, the LARGEST in the world! I am scared and excited to take on this journey. I first started running when I signed up for my first triathlon in 2009, and they say you take one of the 3 sports with you. Running stuck with me. I came to love running and signed up for race after race. Then came a knee injury..and with physical therapy I was back out running..and then came a broken ankle....I guess I am injury prone. But with the help of my wonderful physical therapist I got back on track to health and have been healthy ever since. Then in early 2012 I found out I had a torn rotator cuff as well as a torn bicep. Oops. I lifted too much weight. Then a few weeks ago my left knee started to bother me. My new Physical Therapist is wonderful and I am on the road to recovery, and I am not stopping. I will run this marathon and fight through the pain. I will finish this marathon with pride!
I will be running the ING NYC Marathon for RIPA. When I first moved to NY, I joined the YPC for RIPA, and it was a smart decision. I have met such wonderful people with big hearts. The island itself is spectacular as well. Not only does it house the breeding ground for the FDNY, it has a track that hosted Olympic trials earlier this summer, a driving range and mini golf course, baseball fields, tennis courts, and plenty of paths for cycling and running. Randall's Island isn't just about sports. The island hosts other activities such as Governors Ball, Electric Zoo, Catalpa and Meatopia. Please help me reach my goal of $3,000 by donating to this great island! They offer so much and to be a member of this organization and help raise money to make it more successful is fulfilling.
Please help me support and fundraise for this wonderful organization that has created a little bit of country in the big city.
Randall’s Island Park Alliance (formerly known as the Randall’s Island Sports Foundation) will once again be a Bronze Level Charity in the 2012 ING New York City Marathon, the Premier Event of the New York Road Runners. This year’s race is scheduled for Sunday, November 4, and we still have a limited amount of guaranteed race entries into the marathon for those that want to run and raise funds to support RIPA! If you'd like to join our team, please visit our sign-up page.
By joining Team Randall’s Island or donating to our marathon runners, you will be supporting the work we do to maintain, sustain, and program Randall's Island Park. RIPA is a 501(c)(3) that works with the City and local communities to provide an innovative and exciting destination through a wide range of sports venues, cultural events and environmental exploration.
