BENEFITING: AINSLEYSANGELS OF AMERICA
EVENT DATE: Oct 25, 2015
Teaching and running are two areas of my life that have merged to lead me to the 2015 Marine Corps Marathon with Ainsley's Angels!
Teaching: I teach preschoolers with disabilities in an inclusive setting, and have seen the positive effects of children with disabilities being around typically developing children. It is amazing what these children can learn from each other! Prior to teaching, I worked in the insurance field, but did not feel it was where I was meant to be. Through volunteer work, I met a young boy with Down Syndrome, and realized I wanted to work with children who have special needs. I went back to school, and have been teaching a little over 12 years now.
Running: Running has always been a hobby, a way of exercising. I've enjoyed it over the past several years, and have run many smaller races, several half marathons, and a single marathon. Running has allowed me to make a lot of new friends, and has had a very positive impact on my life. It has also been a journey. There are many races where I was ready to give up, but someone came along or something occurred to help spur me on. On the advice of my friend, Abbey, I began to volunteer with TeamHoytVB in 2013. Through them, I learned the value of pushing children and/or adults with disabilities while running. I now volunteer with Ainsley's Angels for the same cause. Helping someone be included in a running race, who wouldn't be able to participate because of their disability is an amazing experience!
When I learned more about Ainsley's story and the journey her parents have gone through and are still going through, I knew it would be a blessing to be part of this race. As a mother of two, I know how passionate I am about my own children. The Rossiter's passion for Ainsley has led them to create this amazing organization, on a national level. A marathon race will be the farthest distance I have helped to push, but each mile will be worth it. To have the opportunity to raise money for Ainsley's Angels and be part of the 40th anniversary of the Marine Corps Marathon is an honor. Please help support me and this wonderful cause! Thank you!
