THE STORY:

Sister Gaudensia is a part of the Congregation of the Benedictine African Sisters of St. Agnes. She is working on a project to build the first school in Tanzania for students with learning disabilities and/or who are handicapped. She developed the dream of this school after attending school at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. She graduated with a Masters of Education after living in Minnesota for eight years. During her time there she noticed that children with learning disabilities were in school. This made her think about all the children in Tanzania who had learning disabilities that were left out of school. In Tanzania, if a student isn’t doing well the students are taken out of school and told to stay home. No assistance is given to students who are struggling. After spending time in the United States Sister Gaudensia had a desire to help students with learning disabilities. She wants to devote her time to help children in Tanzania get through school like students in the United States do. She wants to spread the knowledge she has gained to the people in Tanzania. Sister Gaudensia hopes that if she is able to build this school that it will be a lesson to other teachers in Tanzania to follow. The short-term goal is to build three classes and one office. The classrooms will be for kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. This alone will cost almost $25,000 to complete. The long-term goal is to continue building the school little by little so that the school goes through high school, if God wishes. The community members have purchased the land for Sister Gaudensia to build the school on. They are also assisting in building her a house to stay in while she works at the school. The best way to assist in this wonderful project is through monetary donations. All money goes directly towards the project. Prayers for this school and project are appreciated as well. Thank you!
