My name is Jason Vanderslice, during my Junior year of high school was when the signs of ALZ started to show in my Mommom. Though she showed signs throughout her later years of life, the symptoms skyrocketed in her later years. It wasn't until she nearly burned down her own home because she forgot to take the plastic plate that she had mistaken for a pan off of her gas-burning oven that my mother, father, and I, made her move in with us. This move allowed us to easily care for us. But ALZ is expensive, like REALLY expensive. In total, my mommom ruined 2 rugs, 2 TVS, and made us lose countless hours searching for keys, remotes, and other house hold items that she constantly hid. We needed a 9-5 nurse to come in to take care of her, forcing us to use the remaining funds in her bank account to pay someone up to $200 a day to take care of her for over a year. This is why ALZ needs more funding. Not only is the treatment itself expensive, but the care and help that people need to live comfortably the rest of their lives is hugely expensive, and if you don't have the funding, is down-right inhumane. For families who do not have enough funding, their loved ones are put into prison-like state funded facilities where they are rolled on their sides and left to rot each and every day. ALZ not only needs funding for better care facilities for those who are already affected, but, also funding to help research the disease to help stop it! Please donate to this cause in order to help those who are struggling now, and for those who could struggle in the future.
