Tarek's Open Heart Surgery
Organized by: Cheyenne Biancheri
Approximately two months ago, my best friend, family, and fiance felt extreme pain and was rushed to the hospital. Many tests were taken and the results came out that his heart was no longer able to function on its own. Prior to these results he underwent a surgery 8 years ago to attempt to assist in the weakness of his heart which was successful. Unfortunately, it was not effective in the long run as he is now in need of a heart transplant. He was enlisted on the heart transplant list 2 weeks ago. Finding a heart which is in good condition and matches a person's characteristics is extremely difficult. Statistics have shown that most people die before actually receiving the donation. As this will not be an easy fix, and his condition is deteriorating every day, he will need an LVAD(it's called Bridge to Transplant, in simple terms, it is a kind of artificial heart pump. It helps the failing heart and aims to restore normal blood flow until a donor is found. Tarek is a 22 year old who has done nothing but help people in his life. I am aware that people say this all the time, however in this case as in many others it is real. Before I met him I had never witnessed such selflessness and kindness. He would always help his friends, family and even strangers. He was the person to give you five dollars if he only had five dollars. He was a funny, outgoing and joyful person. He would never count time, money, circumstances when it came to assisting others. He carried no judgment on others. Before this horrible situation, he was working two jobs and also educating himself to acquire more knowledge and be able to help people in general. He was full of life, never showed his pain, sadness , problems. He considered that life was simple and people complicated easy things. He would say: " Be good to yourself and others, try and always grow, love and share, that's all you need in life". He was the definition of gratefulness and righteousness. I am not saying he is perfect, none of us are, but he was trying to be a good human being. His family and I are raising money in order to pay for his LVAD which is URGENT and will help him survive until a possible donor is found. We have already put as much as we could of our own funds into the surgery but we are going to need the help of our family, friends, and others to make this happen. We appreciate you taking the time to read Tarek's story. Help him to survive and go back to being the full of life and loving person he was !
