BENEFITING: TEEN WRITERS AND ARTISTS PROJECT NFP
The Teen Writers and Artists Project is a federally registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to mentoring teenagers in the arts - including writing, spoken word, theater, visual arts, & music - in order to facilitate their self-expression and self-empowerment. To help young people hone their crafts we provide workshops, online networks, and one-on-one partnerships with professional artists. Through our many programs we seek to build communities of artists across boundaries of place, age, race, gender, culture, genre & form. We believe that art is universally humanizing and communicative, and thus, is an important tool for cultural and social change. We strive to foster communities in which young people may not only find their voices, but develop as whole persons - in mind, body, and spirit - in order to build future generations of natural leaders.
We have many events throughout the year, such as our weekly "West Suburban Wordplay" a workshop and open mic experience for teens, Lit Lab 51, a multigenerational live literary "experiment" every other month, and artistic showcases throughout the year. Holding these events do cost money, which is why Teen Writers and Artists Project is hosting this Dance Marathon; to raise funds to keep the organization running and create more events!
The mission of the marathon is threefold: we are raising funds for the organization, increasing the visibility of local artists (particularly dance groups), and showing youth that dance is a fun way to be healthy and active both in their personal lives and in the community!
We would love to see everyone's beautiful faces participating in this event!
