Organized by: Mariam Bibilouri
This fundraiser is founded to help the victims left homeless from the June 2015 disastrous flooding in my hometown, the Georgian capital, Tbilisi.
A total of 40 families are thought to have been made homeless by the flood, which swept buildings away and caused 20 casualties. Flood waters also battered the city’s Zoo, as floodwater rose to the rooftops of enclosures at the Zoo, drowning hundreds of animals. Many animals were swept out of their enclosures and escaped. Missing animals include tigers, lions, bears and wolves. The damage is estimated to be a cost of around $50 million USD.
Thank you all for your support!
*Update 7/6/15: All donated proceeds have been kindly awarded to a family of 6 from Tbilisi. With the help of a dear friend and Country Director of PH International, Berdia Natsvlishvili, we've selected a family who lived near a high impact flood area. The Mushkudiani family lost everything including their home. They barely escaped the disaster in their pajamas. The family consists of a mother, father, grandmother and 3 children ages 6, 5 and 2.
*Update 7/8/15: The Waterbury Vermont Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop kindly donated 6 t-shirts to the Mushkudiani family. Known for their deeply philanthropic efforts and a strong community oriented philiosophy, this company is no stranger to the spirit of giving. Thank you Ben & Jerry's!
