Our TBM Avenger suffered substantial damage in 2014, when the left landing gear failed while taxiing. Restoration was completed in August of this year. After more than 2 years and $300,000, the old bird is back in the air, but the restoration completely depleted our operational reserves, and put us into debt.
Wasting no time after repair and test flights were completed, the TBM hit the road. She participated in 6 back-to-back weekend events in Wyoming, Colorado and Arizona, accompanied by Wing members who shared specs, history, and stories of WWII Navy flight crews.
The Rocky Mountain Wing plans to have a great airshow tour season in 2017, with appearances at a dozen or more airshows. With proceeds from these events and other fund-raising activities, we plan to expand our Rise Above activity to include both Red Tails and WASP programs, retire the repair debt, and start rebuilding our operational reserves.
Our immediate need is to pay a $15,000 repair invoice which is due this year. We're hoping for a Christmas Miracle, but any donations, no matter how small will be greatly appreciated.
