My goal is for everyone to feel as blessed as I do  See more

Nobody likes to hear the words "you have cancer" But it happened to me, in the Dr's office as a follow up to my first surgery. No word from pathology. No news is good News? We called, from the office and asked for the pathology results" They didn't get it all! So, after already one surgery to remove half my Thyroid. I was on my way to scheduling another and yet I underestimated my diagnosis because I knew there were so many others suffering much worse than I was. Fortunately Thyroid Cancer has an almost 100% success rate at removal/after care. People would often tell me, if you had to get Cancer, it's the best place to have it. Well, I wouldn't have chosen Cancer to begin with, but I am grateful it WAS isolated. Even though I brushed it off, partly due to denial, Some even said "well, it's not REALLY" cancer!!! Oh Really!? It felt pretty real to me! Cancer is Cancer and the fear is there. Because it is so isolated and easily treated doesn't mean we don't need the research or information of origin. One less "type" of cancer to worry about the better!

After 2 successful surgeries, love and support from friends and family and great Doctors, I am proud to say that I am Cancer-Free and am looking forward to hearing so many more say those words. I was lucky and I wish the same for all who hear the 1 sentence noone should ever hear. To this day, my younger sister says to me " I can't believe you had cancer!" But the Key word there is HAD! Let's give someone else the chance to have their "HAD"

****Fabulous quote from Roger Ebert (thyroid cancer survivor) on Oprah****

“I believe that if, at the end of it all according to our abilities, we have done something to make others a little happier and something to make ourselves a little happier, that is about the best we can do. To make others less happy is a crime. To make ourselves unhappy is where all crime starts. We must try to contribute joy to the world. That is true no matter what our problems, our health, our circumstances…we must try. I didn’t always know this and I am happy that I lived long enough to find it out.”

And about the way he looks now after his surgeries took his lower jaw and voice: ”This is the way I look and my life is happy and productive…nobody looks perfect…we have to find peace with the way we look and get on with life.”
