BENEFITING: HEART HEROES INC
EVENT DATE: Sep 17, 2016
Since the time I learned that Azalea had congential heart defects (CHD) when she was 20 weeks in the womb until she was a year old, I felt really alone in this journey. Our friends and family gave prayers, food and support but they didn't really understand my experience.
As a mother of a child with congenital heart defects (CHD) I found that the only way I could feel good about my experience is by helping others on a similar path. I worked towards starting the Mended Little Hearts East Bay chapter in February, 2013. Each time I get to meet a family and be able to listen, give comforting words, resources and support I know that I am working for a bigger cause. Heart families need each other and the work that Mended Little Hearts does is like no other. I would love for our chapter to grow and make an impact on a larger level to families affected by CHD in the Bay Area.
Our group supports families with children going through heart procedures by giving the Bravery Bags at UCSF Beinoff Children's Hospital Oakland; we connect through social media and social events; we do meal trains, phone/text support and we share our stories.
I am fundraising to build the peer-to-peer support in the Spanish-speaking community.
