THANK YOU! THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT!!!!!! OUR GOAL WAS A MODEST $200, YOU RAISED $1075! THERE IS NO See more
As many of you know, BAM is our superhero! He has fought and beat so many battles thus far!! Little did we know, BAM is facing one of his biggest battles and it may be a lifelong one with Autism. This diagnosis was initially heartbreaking for us but it does not change who BAM is, he is still our sweet, funny, awesome, loving and very curious child. The medical recommendation was ABA therapy. Our insurance plan did not cover it. The cost was $80K-100K without insurance, simple maths tells us that we would never be able to afford this therapy for BAM on our own. And to top it all off...there is a wait list of 8 months to one year for in-home ABA therapy. We were at a complete lost because open enrollment was a few months away and Bernard's work only provided one plan that covered ABA therapy but it had extremely limited coverage at Seattle Children's. All of BAM's specialists are at SC. We did not know what to do...get ABA therapy and loss amazing medical care or have amazing medical care and not have any ABA therapy. Even if we did decide on an insurance plan, we would still have to wait so long for therapy. We are happy to say, we did not have to make choice, BAM gets to stay at SC and is receiving ABA therapy... all thanks to the amazing folks at Washington Autism Alliance and Advocacy. With their guidance we were able to secure an insurance plan for BAM that covered ABA therapy and all his medical needs at SC. And the amazing part is an ABA center opened in January that was only 15 minutes away from our home and they were accepting new clients. BAM has been at the center since Feb and he is doing GREAT! He's feeding himself, making much more eye contact, starting to communicate and will even give you kisses as a bribe to get what he wants. We are so grateful to receive the help from WAAA, they were there for us when we didn't know where to turn. We know that we will rely on them in the future. They do all this work pro bono and for ALL families, regardless of income. Please help WAAA continue supporting families like ours. And always, thank you!!!!
