Our summer started out amazing. We welcomed baby Madison June 24th and from the start Evan was the best big brother. Early August I noticed Evans stomach was not symmetrical and that his left side seemed to be swollen. He wasn't complaining of pain and had no other symptoms. I made an appointment for him August 7th in which Mike took him and I went to a baby shower. The on call pediatrician referred us to the hospital for further tests. After a CT scan it was revealed Evan had a tumor the size of a softball in his left kidney. Hours later the pediatric oncologist was talking to us about cancer. We were in disbelief, shock and scared. Just two days later the tumor was removed. After more tests and the histology of the tumor he was officially diagnosed with Stage 2 Clear Cell Sarcoma of the kidney. A very rare cancer only effecting 3% of renal cancer patients. Evan had 6 rounds of radiation, 28 weeks of chemo therapy, 13 blood transfusions and 4 platelet transfusions. He also had two febrile seizures due to a high fever. Evan completed chemotherapy February 4th and is scheduled for an MRI,CT and bone scan this week. We will know soon if he is in remission. Evans nick name is Toddler shark and al our supporters have been named #Teamtoddlershark. We couldn't have done this journey without them.
