EVENT DATE: Sep 09, 2017
DAYS TO GO: 18
I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension back in 2011 but my problems started back in the fall of 2009. That's when I got a DVT in my calf and then a Pulmonary Embolism in the arteries in my lungs. I was put on blood thinners and after a year I was told that I could get off them. But unfortunately I had another large Pulmonary Embolism in the arteries in my lungs.
As the years past things got much worse, due to the clots that did not go away they turned into scars which made it difficult to breathe on exertion. By 2016 my condition progressed to the point where I could not do much with out getting short of breath and having chest pains. I decided I needed to research getting surgery to help resolve this. My research lead me to a hospital in San Diego called UCSD. I ended up being a candidate for a new procedure called Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (BPA).
In total I had four of these procedures, two in August of 2016 and two in January 2017. I was the 14th person to have this procedure at UCSD and at the time only one other hospital was doing this procedure, which was Mayo Clinic. Needless to say these procedures were life changing and I am doing stuff I have not been able to do for over 8 years.
I want to thank my amazing wife who has been there with me from the original diagnosis, the lows and highs and all my procedures. I feel so blessed to have such a great wife, friend and care giver in my life. I also want to thank all my family, friends, Doctors and nurses that help me get to where I am now.
