The TEARS Foundation's Rock & Walk event is a time for our community to gather, to walk and to rock, and lift up the families in our local communities who have been affected by the loss of a child.
I am one of these families. I have lost a total of 4 children (3 pregnancy losses and an infant loss at 11.5 weeks old). My most recent loss being my daughter, Hitomi Keimiko Tortorea. She was born via c-section on March 26th, 2015 with a very rare birth defect that essentially caused her to have a second "soft spot" in the back of her head and as a result, it wrecked havoc on the proper development of her brain and the cavity the brain sits. Originally, she was just meant to be devopmentally delayed but when she was born, we discovered there was damage to her brainstem and that there was nothing they could do but keep her comfortable for as long as she was with us and do there best to prepare us for the moment she was not. Hitomi put up an amazing fight but she eventually lost her fight on June 14th, 2015. During her short time on this Earth, her life -- her strength -- her aura of peace touched many people and her memory has done the same. I have enclosed a link to an article written by myself November 2015 that gives a detailed account of her life if you wish to know a little more about the infant, whose life and memory touch so many. https://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org/parent-newsletters/hitomi/
BELOW IS SOME FURTHER INFOMATION ABOUT THE TEARS FOUNDATION AND WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO ME.
The TEARS Foundation's Rock & Walk is the signature fundraising event for TEARS. This annual event allows registered walkers to “walk” in honor of a child, or simply in support of others. Each team of walkers may also “rock” in the rocking chairs placed at the event site. Rocking chairs signify the heart of the walk, which is to raise funds for families who have lost a baby and are in need of funeral assistance and emotional support services. The TEARS Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that compassionately assists newly bereaved families with their baby’s funeral expenses and with ongoing emotional support.
REGISTRATION: Register by September 7, 2017 for $5 (early bird registration) after that registration will be $10 per person. Children 12 and under receive free admission. You may purchase a personalized Rock & Walk t-shirt by September 7, 2017. A limited amount of non personalized shirts may be available for purchase at the walk. You may also make your own team shirts.
Thank you for helping us support bereaved families in Florida.
