BENEFITING: ANIMAL RESCUE RHODE ISLAND
EVENT DATE: Oct 15, 2016
Nearly all my life I have had the joy of owning a dog. I remember as a first grader walking home from school and always being on the lookout for a stray dog, hoping I could bring him or her home and keep it. It almost worked once! I guess my parents got the message that having a dog was pretty important to their little girl, so one night they surprised me with a female lab mix pup. Tears of happiness filled my eyes. Her name was Fru-Fru. Not quite sure how we got that name, but she was the love of my life and lived until she was 15, passing while I was away at college. A few short years later, my husband and I got a call from a friend in Poughkeepsie, NY, whose dog had a litter of beautiful husky/malamute/shepherd pups. We beelined to Poughkeepsie and brought home Ukelele Lady -- named after the Arlo Guthrie song. We called her Uki. When just a couple of months old, Uki got out of the house and was hit by a car. Thankfully she survived. My husband and my first anniversary present was having Uki's hip operated on after the accident. Whenever my mom came to visit, we would take Uki to the beach for her rehab therapy! The Ukester lived 14 wonderful years. A few months later we found Meesha, a black lab/shepherd mix. This was the dog that our children grew up with. She, too, was so loved. And boy did she and I put in the miles. She too brought us 14 years of love and happiness. It's been a few years without a dog (no one can believe it!), but thankfully I get my puppy(and kitty) love from the shelter dogs when I come to work. The shelter is a great temporary home for dogs and cats in need. I see the love and care that is given to each and the attention to detail when it comes to ensuring that each adoption results in a truly happy, forever ending. Hence why I have created this fundraising page. I hope you will show your support with a donation. Any amount is sincerely appreciated.
