Help me reach my goal of $500 for iMentor!
After four years of iMentor, Kaylee is now in her second semester at college, at SUNY Geneseo. In her own words:
"When I first heard about iMentor, I didn't think it was something I wanted or needed. I mean, I had a family who was helping me with life decisions and giving me tips for college. Once I met the mentor assigned to me, those initial thoughts changed. After meeting a couple of times with Barrie, it astounded me how much her and I mentor were really guiding me as oppose to my family. I felt like they were the net to catch me if I ever lost touch with myself and what I want to do with my life. If it wasn't for iMentor, I would feel lost, confused, frustrated etc. Everyone, especially students, needs that sanctuary to escape from the insanity involved in one's life. iMentor was mine. And for that I am incredibly grateful and hope that others will have a chance to experience something this amazing."
Dry your eyes, we're not done yet.
iMentor is based in NY, The Bay Area, and Chicago and pairs high school students with a mentor with the primary goal of helping them get into college. This money will go to supporting the program, but also to subsidize the cost of applying to college, which between SAT tutoring, SAT registration fees, and application fees, adds up FAST.
I'll let the numbers speak for themselves:
* $1,000 supports a mentor/mentee pair for a year
* 250 supports a college application event for an entire class
* $100 supplies a mentee with a year's worth of college prep activities
Nationwide, 23% of low-income minority students enroll in college. When students are paired with a mentor from iMentor, this number jumps to 75%.
We're looking to raise $500 (the cost of a latte in Manhattan), and every donation you make up to $50 will be matched! We appreciate any contribution. Thank you!
