I am in the second year of my match with my mentee Jordan, who is a Sophomore at the Academy for Software Engineering in Manhattan. In the past year Jordan and I have grown very close and I really can't wait to see how much Jordan accomplishes in the next couple of years, throughout college and his career.
There are not enough amazing things I can say about Jordan - he is so intelligent, driven, ambitious, kind and caring...and every other positive adjective you can think of! Jordan and i just finished updating his resume (between his photography business, all his extracurricular activities and awards he's received it was tough getting it down to one page!) and are now starting to research information on colleges (Jordan has some high aspirations of getting into MIT to focus on studying cybersecurity and eventually working in the FBI in the cyber division)!
I hope you will consider supporting iMentor and the thousands of awesome students (just like Jordan!) and mentors who are working together!
Here is what your support can do for New York City’s students:
- $25 allows a mentee to attend a year of iMentor events
- $100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preparation events
- $500 provides a college application event for an entire Junior class
- $1,000 supports the mentorship of one student as they work one-on-one with their mentor toward academic and personal success
About iMentor: iMentor builds mentoring relationships that empower first-generation students from low-income communities, where a majority of students served will be first-generation college graduates, to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions. We launched in 1999 with our inaugural program with just 49 students in a single school in the South Bronx. Today, iMentor serves more than 6,000 students through our direct-service programs in New York City, Chicago, and the Bay Area and through our partnerships with local non-profit organizations that implement our model in 39 schools.
