We've hit 90% of our goal!
March 27, 2017
Hi friends! Over the past few months, I've been involved in iMentor, a program that pairs underprivileged youth one-on-one with college educated professionals to help the kids better understand the opportunities available to them and guide them through the college admissions process. Through iMentor, I've had the joy of getting to know Marvin, my mentee. He's a smart, goofy high school junior with a knack for math and science. Like many kids in the program, he may be the first in his family to pursue a college education. And like many of his international school classmates, Marvin understands very little English, having immigrated here recently from Guatemala.
It's been a very challenging but rewarding experience for me so far, conversing with Marvin in my broken spanish and helping him through the college admission process. Through it all, I've realized how fortunate many of us have truly been to have had the opportunities we've had. For many of us growing up, it was pretty much the norm to graduate high school and attend college. But for Marvin and many others like him, all of that is oftentimes a distant dream.
To date, the iMentor program has helped almost 6,000 high schoolers across the nation with the resources and guidance they need to apply for and succeed in college. We are in the midst of our annual iMentor Challenge fundraising event for the upcoming school year and would appreciate your support. And if donations aren't your thing, I personally encourage you to, at the very least, check out the iMentor program and see for yourself the impact it's had in bettering the lives of countless kids. Feel free to hit me up at any time with questions or if you are interested in being involved.

Now, more than ever, we need to show our students that there are countless people across the country who care deeply about them, who stand with them and who will do whatever it takes to help them achieve their ambitions.
The iMentor Challenge is our chance to do just that. It's a community-driven crowdfunding campaign powered by our mentors and their friends, families and colleageues.
Crowdrise makes it easy, fun and effective for mentors to share their story and raise crucial dollars to connect even more students with mentors. Three hundred more students to be exact. We’re going big this year and looking to raise $300,000 so we can bring iMentor to a whole new school in New York City.
It costs iMentor $1,000 to provide one mentor-mentee pair with access to iMentor’s proven college success curriculum and resources. Here is what your support can do for New York City’s students:
- $25 allows a mentee to attend a year of iMentor events
- $100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preparation events
- $500 provides a college application event for an entire Junior class
- $1,000 supports the mentorship of one student as they work one-on-one with their mentor toward academic and personal success
