Friends and family,
As some of you know, I'm a mentor to a funny, smart, animal-loving, world-weary 12th grader from the Bronx named Elaine. When we met a few years ago, Elaine's dream was to be a veterinary doctor so she could work with animals every day. Since then, she's faced many challenges, and at times, lost hope. With the help of a team of cheerleaders and supporters, however, she persisted. This fall, Elaine will attend her top choice college to study veterinary medicine - she will be the first in her family to go to college and she couldn't be more thrilled. It's been an incredibly rewarding experience to get to know Elaine and support her in this journey.
Now, more than ever, we need to show our students that there are countless people across the country who care deeply about them, who stand with them and who will do whatever it takes to help them achieve their ambitions.
The iMentor Challenge is our chance to do just that. It's a community-driven crowdfunding campaign powered by our mentors and their friends, families and colleageues. We’re going big this year and looking to raise $300,000 so we can bring iMentor to a whole new school in New York City.
It costs iMentor $1,000 to provide one mentor-mentee pair with access to iMentor’s proven college success curriculum and resources. Here is what your support can do for New York City’s students:
- $25 allows a mentee to attend a year of iMentor events
- $100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preparation events
- $500 provides a college application event for an entire Junior class
- $1,000 supports the mentorship of one student as they work one-on-one with their mentor toward academic and personal success
