Teneisha and I have been an iMentor pair for three and a half years now. I met her when she was a shy new Freshman in high school, and now she is in her final semester of Senior year with a stellar record of good grades and accomplishments! I have enjoyed my time getting to know her, meeting her monthly at her high school in the Bronx, talking regularly about friends, work, family, goals, upcoming tests, college applications, pop culture and recent world issues. I have shared with her my experiences that lead me to the professional life I have now, emphasizing the winding pathways I took along the way.
My hope as she moves forward towards the phase beyond high school, when she is finalizing her decisions with college and travel, that I have helped instill that her ideas are of great value. Her choices will shape her world and her ambitions, no matter how quiet they are speaking to her. Her choices have the power to alter and shift entire communities. As I have told Teneisha, getting a good education leads to more pathways to choose from, which ultimately allows for a greater freedom in life.

Now, more than ever, we need to show our students that there are countless people across the country who care deeply about them, who stand with them and who will do whatever it takes to help them achieve their ambitions.
The iMentor Challenge is our chance to do just that. It's a community-driven crowdfunding campaign powered by our mentors and their friends, families and colleageues.
Crowdrise makes it easy, fun and effective for mentors to share their story and raise crucial dollars to connect even more students with mentors. Three hundred more students to be exact. We’re going big this year and looking to raise $300,000 so we can bring iMentor to a whole new school in New York City.
It costs iMentor $1,000 to provide one mentor-mentee pair with access to iMentor’s proven college success curriculum and resources. Here is what your support can do for New York City’s students:
- $25 allows a mentee to attend a year of iMentor events
- $100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preparation events
- $500 provides a college application event for an entire Junior class
- $1,000 supports the mentorship of one student as they work one-on-one with their mentor toward academic and personal success
