What iMentor Means to Me
March 06, 2017
Our model harnesses the power of long-term, personal relationships to help students succeed. We partner with high schools in low-income communities, where a majority of students served will be first-generation college graduates. Each year, we recruit thousands of volunteers who commit to mentor a high school student for at least three years.
Emotional connection is a crucial element for mentoring pairs in achieving program objectives. Pairs with a strong bond engage more effectively with the curriculum and tend to show more growth in nurturing a college aspiration and in the development of non-cognitive skills.
It costs iMentor $1,000 to provide one mentor-mentee pair with access to iMentor’s proven college success curriculum and resources. Here is what your support can do for New York City’s students:
- $25 allows a mentee to attend a year of iMentor events
- $100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preparation events
- $500 provides a college application event for an entire Junior class
- $1,000 supports the mentorship of one student as they work one-on-one with their mentor toward academic and personal success
