The iMentor Challenge is a "friendraising" campaign aimed at raising funds to support iMentor's vital work. I am just one of hundreds of mentors who have made pages that showcase our passion for mentoring. Please take this moment to donate $1, $25, $100, or whatever your budget will allow.
As some of you know, I volunteer with iMentor, a nonprofit that connects NYC professionals (like myself) in one-on-one mentoring relationships with high school students from low-income communities all around New York. This is my 9th year as a mentor and my 6th year on the Young Executive Board. I’ve had the great opportunity to be matched with several mentees throughout my years with iMentor. One of my mentees, Mia, was a student at KIPP in Harlem, a Charter School for gifted students. Mia's family immigrated to New York from the Dominican Republic and Mia is a hard working student and athlete who, thanks in part to iMentor, is now attending college. During our meetings, Mia was always eager to share her goals, plans, hopes and dreams with me. Spending time learning about her and guiding her through her high school experience has been immensely rewarding and fun. We worked on her college essays, scholarship applications, and I was thrilled to see her through her high school years and into her successful college career. It’s has been amazing getting to know her and I am proud to have this opportunity to let you into my world as a mentor.
We have all had someone in our lives that we consider a role model or a mentor. Don’t you think today’s youth deserve the same opportunity? iMentor makes this possible. Every dollar makes a difference. A donation as small as $25 allows a mentee to attend a year’s worth of iMentor events. $100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preparation events. $500 sponsors a mentee’s full participation for an entire year. My goal is $1000 and I am proud to have this opportunity to invite you all to help make it happen. To learn more about iMentor visit www.imentor.org
iMentor is the premiere mentoring program with offices in NY, Chicago, and the Bay Area and partnerships around the US. This year alone, iMentor will match 1,800 professionals in one-on-one relationships with students from low income neighborhoods in NYC. In addition, iMentor will bring our innovative model to thousands of students nationwide through our national program, iMentor Interactive. Mentoring relationships are changing the trajectory of mentees’ lives by helping them graduate high school and enroll in college. iMentor’s impact is best explained by the students we serve. Kandace, a mentee from the Bronx, says; “My mentor gives me support in school and lets me know I can succeed. With her support, nothing can get me down. She lifts me up when I’m down and keeps me motivated.”
