For the last few months, I've been talking weekly and meeting monthly with a kid from Brooklyn going to school in Union Square. He wants to be a chef and start a business. Together, we've written essays, contacted references, and applied to schools. In the next few weeks he should hear from where he's going next year, and he's waiting on pins and needles to find out.
For me, working through this program has been supremely rewarding, and I wish more people took the time to help. Most (if not all) of the people reading this have gone to college. The knowledge we have of what it takes to get there is not nearly as common as we think, and to share that with kids who never thought they'd make it there can really change the way they look at their future.
That's why I would really appreciate you taking a little time to donate for the program.
It costs iMentor $1,000 to provide one mentor-mentee pair with access to iMentor’s college-readiness curriculum and resources. Your support, no matter the size, can do great things for the kids of New York:
- $25 allows a mentee to attend a year of iMentor events
- $100 pays for a year of career and college preparation for a mentee
- $500 can help an entire class learn how to apply to college
Please think about donating a few dollars to help these kids apply to schools and help Victor become an entrepreneurial MasterChef.
