The 2016-2017 school year has been amazing for the Rosenblums and our mentees. This year, Grant started mentoring a new student, Louis, a freshman in The Bronx. Erica's mentee, Ania, a senior from Brownsville, Brooklyn, has already been accepted to four colleges!
We're upping the ante on our fundraising efforts this year, as iMentor is looking to raise a whopping $300,000 to bring their program to another New York City public school. Our personal goal is to raise $4,000 - just 1.3% of the overall goal, but enough to support FOUR mentor/mentee pairs!
We consider the work of iMentor vital to ending the cycle of poverty in Ania and Louis's communities. Students in the iMentor program are some of New York City's poorest, with an average family income of $22,000 per year. Despite these dismal figures, 79% of iMentor students graduate high school and 65% of iMentor students enroll in college on-time, compared to the national average of 51% for students from low-income communities.
It costs iMentor $1,000 to provide one mentor-mentee pair with access to iMentor’s proven college success curriculum and resources. Here is what your support can do for New York City’s students:
- $25 allows a mentee to attend a year of iMentor events
- $100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preparation events
- $500 provides a college application event for an entire Junior class
- $1,000 supports the mentorship of one student as they work one-on-one with their mentor toward academic and personal success
