Team Jake/Jake's Journey 2016
Organized by: Karla Renfrow
EVENT DATE May 14, 2016
Jake’s Journey is hosting our FIFTH Annual "Team Jake" fundraiser, in honor of a very special little boy named Jake Renfrow. We are very excited this year to be partnering with SEEK Camp here in North Texas, as Team Jake's chosen charity recipient. SEEK Camp is a local summer camp experience for children who are physically and/or mentally challenged to learn about love, friendship, sharing, caring and living in a Christian community.
About SEEK Camp
SEEK Camp was established more than 40 years ago, and has served thousands of children with intellectual and physical disabilities. SEEK Camp is a non-denominational Christian camp experience, sponsored by the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. The all-volunteer staff provides a residential camping experience for those children who otherwise would not be able to attend camp. This camp is not only an unforgettable week of fun and growth for these children, but also provides a time of respite for the families of each child. All activities are designed to accommodate the special needs of the campers. Each camper is encouraged and assisted by their personal counselor to participate in the camp community. About Team Jake
Team Jake was formed in 2011, in honor of a very special little boy named Jakeb Renfrow. "Jake" was born on July 9, 2009, via emergency c-section, after a seemingly normal pregnancy. Unknowingly, the situation was critical, as Jake had to be resuscitated at birth and admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Jake's family later learned that Jake had a "true knot" in his umbilical cord, which unfortunately cannot be detected on sonograms. True knots are not only very rare, but have an 80% mortality rate. Jake had already beat the odds.
Jake was first diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at approximately 18 months of age. He was later diagnosed with ADHD and Autism at 5 years old. He is now almost 7, and while he still faces daily challenges, Jake has worked very hard over the years in intensive therapies, and is now an active and thriving little boy. He is currently in Kindergarten at Forest Vista Elementary in Flower Mound, TX. Jake has two also very special big sisters, Kylle and Kinley, that adore him and make sure that he knows that he can do anything he sets his mind to!
Jake's parents formed Jake’s Journey in 2011 in an effort to help make a difference in the life of special needs children. Every dollar raised goes to the charity selected by them each year. Team Jake 2015 raised approximately $15,000 for Ability Connection Texas, a charity organization that provides a full range of services for people with physical and intellectual disabilities, as they strive to achieve their highest level of independence. In 2014, they raised over $20,000 for the same organization.
Please make plans to join us on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at our Team Jake fundraising party at Daddy Rabbit's Rub in Lewisville. We will have live music, a live and silent auction, raffle and lots of fun! All proceeds will benefit SEEK Camp. Adults only, please.
