On August 8, 2014, I was a healthy, active, fit 44 year old runner who had developed a slight wheeze and a cough while on my runs. I was a never smoker, and a single mom to my amazing then 18 yr old son. It is also the day that I was diagnosed with inoperable Stage 4 Lung Cancer, Non Small Cell Adenocarcinoma EGFR+, and our lives would be forever changed. I have been incredibly blessed by the love and support of my family and friends, both near and far. The lung cancer community has also been so full of strength, love, support and HOPE! It was by a stroke of luck and circumstances that I was first introduced to Chris Draft. That meeting changed everything for me. My outlook, my hope, my lung cancer community, my support, my voice, my courage, my survivorship, my life. I am so grateful for Team Draft and everything they represent. It would mean so much to me to be able to give back to this organization and in turn, to help others. Raising funds for reseach and awareness with opportunities and events like this are crucial to increasing survivorship. This research is the reason I am still here today. It is responsible for developing the initial targeted therapy drug that I was able to take with great success for the first 17 months, as well as the clinical trial drug that I am currently taking with positive results for the last 21 months. It will also be key in creating the next treatment I will take, when this one is no longer effective. I just need to live long enough for the research to catch up create more options for me. Lung cancer is grossly underfunded by the federal government, even though it takes more lives every year than colon/breast/prostate cancer COMBINED. It kills 433 a day in the United States alone. I am supporting this research because my life literally depends on it. I recently celebrated my 3 YEAR SURVIVORSHIP milestone, and it was a day I wasn’t sure I’d ever get to see. I would be humbly honored to have you join my team to support this cause. There is strength in numbers, and you can help make a difference! Any and all donations are always welcome. No amount is too small to make a difference. Thank you in advance to all who are able and willing to support this cause, so near and dear to my heart! And thank you on behalf of all those who are affected by lung cancer! Please help me get to the Super Bowl, to hopefully see my Seattle Seahawks wiin another Championship title, while crushing lung cancer!
