BENEFITING: ENDURE TO CURE PEDIATRIC CANCER FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Aug 21, 2016
I'm running this year's Falmouth Road Race for my nephew Lucas, the son of my sister Simone and her husband Paul. Last November Lucas became very ill. He spent several weeks in the ICU battling for his life. The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia diagnosed Lucas with Burkitt's Lymphoma.
Once diagnosed Lucas started a rigorous chemotherapy treatment plan, which continues to this day. I have watched as Lucas and his parents travel this long road. With every up comes another down. With every down comes a glimmer of hope. A smile. Laughter. A tiny ray of light helping to inspire them to push forward. A reminder of where they are headed. Normalcy. Comfort. Home.
I can't imagine what it would be like to watch your child's life hang in the balance. I can't pretend to fully understand that feeling. I do know that family and friends help pave that road home. Help make the unimaginable and seemingly impossible journey a little easier. I'm running for Lucas.
