BENEFITING: American Cancer Society
EVENT DATE: Oct 08, 2016
We all know the big horrible C word that no one ever wants to hear being said around them much less it being them getting the diagnosis. No one ever thinks they will be in the position... 'I have cancer.' Cancer sees no age, race or religion. It can creep up when you least expect it. It is something that if you do get it, you try and not let it rip your life apart. But we are NOT in control, we can NOT prevent Cancer from tearing us apart, breaking us down and making us waste away.
Being diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma in October of 2010 was a complete shocker to me. I honestly did not even grasp what the doctor was saying. I went back to work after I left the doctors office, put in for time off for my consult with an Oncologist and moved on. Ignorance can be bliss at times, but it can also be DEADLY! I was a healthy 27 year old, single mother of two amazing young boys. This could not be happening! I am truly blessed to say my battle was not long and I have awesome doctors and the best support group through it all. Unfortunately that is not the case for all suffering from Cancer.
The reality is there IS a Cure out there just waiting to be developed! Not all of us work in healthcare, not all of us are scientists. Not all of us run 5k Races to raise money for Cancer Awareness. But it is something we can do as a team. Together, we can make a huge impact in a very simple way. All you have to do is RUN! (or donate if you're not a runner).
Please join us in our Race for a Cure!! Rugged Maniac 5k Obstacle Race October 8, 2016. We have set this page up to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The funds we raise will enable the Society to provide patients, their families, and caregivers with cancer information, day-to-day help, and emotional support, as well as allow the Society to conduct groundbreaking research and fund pioneering scientists.
