BENEFITING: Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi
Ten years old, silly, talkative, extremely artistic, a dancer, a loyal friend, a child of God, and she happens to be my inspiration... yes, I'm talking about my daughter, Natalie! Since the age of 2, when she was first diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, I've watched this beautiful young lady have to check her blood sugar multiple times a day and throughout the night. I've seen her have to receive anywhere from 4 - 8 shots in a day and then transition to wearing an insulin pump 24/7. I've watched her go off to a friends house while keeping my phone nearby, so that she can call to check in with a Blood Glucose reading and get a carb count, just so she can get the insulin she needs to allow her to eat. I've held her hand through the stressful viruses that make her check her BG and ketones so often in the day, that sleep is next to impossible. Through it all though, she stands strong and she glorifies God. Natalie uses her diabetes as a teaching tool. She helps to teach other young kids how to be brave enough to check their own BG for the first time. She shows them that it is ok to prick their own finger. She encourages little kids with taking their shots and changing their pump sites. I've even seen her get up in front of a class of my own high school students and explain what Type 1 Diabetes is and show off her pump and supplies. This amazing young lady does all this to help others to not be scared of T1D and to know that even with all this, she's still just a kid. She has chosen to live her life according to God's will, not the will of the roller coaster ride we call Type 1 Diabetes. She is my inspiration. Team Natalie is walking on September 17 in Jones Park here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. If you can help, please consider donating to our team to help raise $500 for other kids like Natalie here in our state. The money goes to help others who need supplies, for kids who wish to go to diabetes camp (Camp Kandu), for school nurse supplies/education, and for We Care, Too packages for newly diagnosed kids. The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi puts all this together for families throughout our state and without them, many families would not have the help they truly need to figure out life with a diabetic. Any amount of money will help and will be such a blessing, from $5 and up! I also want to invite any and all of you to come walk with our team! Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk will begin shortly after. So... Jones Park, Gulfport on September 17th to walk and to donate, either in person at the walk or through this site here with crowdrise! Thank you for supporting my inspiration, my Natalie. We truly find all of you such blessings to our lives!
