EVENT DATE: Jun 12, 2016
I have been a volunteer at Lovelane for over 14 years and have had the privilege of working with Norah for the past 2 years. Norah has a seizure disorder, which makes it difficult for her to participate in many of the things that other children get to do. She is, however, a fantastic horseback rider! Norah gets so much joy from her lessons. She is fearless, hard-working, and is clearly getting stronger every day. Her infectious smile is like a little bit of sunshine for all of us. I am honored to be her partner in the ring. I ask for your support in making sure that we can always be here for Nora, and for all the incredibly special students we serve.
Lovelane Special Needs Horseback Riding Program is a therapeutic horseback riding program that has a dramatic impact on the physical and cognitive development of children with special needs. For over 25 year, Lovelane has been committed to providing an individualized program for children with special needs that integrates the pure joy and freedom of riding a horse with the appropriate therapy to achieve the child's specific therapeutic goals. Lovelane provides 4,500 individual lessons annually for children with special needs with the help of 200 volunteers. The Susan McDaniel Run for Lovelane, which has become one of our signature events, will take place on Sunday, June 12th. Susan, an athlete, actress and equestrian, was a student at Lovelane throughout her 2 year battle with cancer. When treatments left her too exhausted to ride, she took joy in stable chores. Sadly, Susan is no longer with us, but her memory lives on in this annual run to benefit the children with special needs who ride at Lovelane. The Run continues to grow each year. The funds raised from the Run have become a vital part of supporting Lovelane as 60% of Lovelane costs are funded through fundraising activities.
