About the Running for Innocence campaign
Running for Innocence offers a unique way to support the New England Innocence Project's efforts to bring innocence claims to light by contributing directly to the costs of expert case review, private investigation and DNA consultation and testing. In the two years since its creation, Running for Innocence has grown to include more than 50 runners who participate in running events of varying distances and work together to raise money and awareness for this important cause. Team members have run the New York, Maine and Boston marathons, the Newburyport River Run 1/2 Marathon and 5K, the Yankee Homecoming 10 Miler, the Genesis Battlegreen 10K and more! Team members include lawyers, professors, law students, investigators, teachers, exonerees and many others, united by a commitment to prevent and correct wrongful convictions. In May 2016, the team expanded to include an inspiring group of sixth graders who formed "Kids Running for Innocence" and ran a 5K in Newburyport. The money raised by Running for Innocence team members goes directly toward the expert and investigator expenses needed to ensure that the many men and women whose wrongful convictions the New England Innocence Project and its partners are working to overturn have a fighting chance to achieve justice and freedom.
