Rabih Runs Haiti 2018
December 27, 2017
I am thankful, honored, excited, and frankly scared to be 1 of 40 runners selected to run 230ish miles across Haiti in 2018. As I signed up on my couch in a hard C-collar on a lonely summer night, I never thought that this adventure will come to reality. The noble cause behind this run, however, transcended whatever physical disability I was struggling with at the time. I never in my life would have thought that I would work with an organization dedicated to providing better lives for a country and its people. I have been very blessed to have the opportunity to migrate to the United States from a third world country to pursue the American Dream. Now, it's my turn to give back by fundraising and doing a little running. My kids think I’m crazy, but are beginning to see beyond the physical pain and the run. Work's mission is to accompany families in Haiti out of poverty through good, dignified jobs. Work also provides these families access to medical care, educational opportunities for school aged children, and help in eliminating debt, as well as address any housing needs. Work has made strides in improving access to medical care in Haiti. Their health program in the community serves over 400 family members. They have also launched a menu of preventative health workshops that includes an exercise component to get one step ahead of the game. Whether I can finish this run or not is irrelevant. I hope to make an impact through fundraising, and checking out the medical community in Haiti in February to see how I can volunteer my services. With your generosity we can continue to provide better lives for the communities of Haiti. Thank you for time, support and donations!
