Team Udders for Kate is a group of friends throughout the United States honoring our dear friend Kate through various events. From 5K's, marathons, bike rides, yard work, skipping, knitting, and many more activities, we are honoring Kate through fundraising initiatives! Kate lives in Upstate NY, along with her husband and their three children! Together they own/operate the organic dairy farm Dead End Dairy. At 34 years old, and with no family history of cancer, Kate noticed a mass. In February 2017, Kate was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Stage IIB, with a mass that measured 6.4cm and had spread to 3 lymph nodes. The tumor is Estrogen, Progesterone and HER2 Positive, which have had major advancements in treatment in the last 2 years. Currently, Kate is undergoing 20 weeks of two phases of chemo and looking at surgery later this Summer. While she has had family, friends and financial stability to weather this storm, the hardships have been quick and difficult on everyone.
Kate has become aware of the hardships that a diagnosis can put on a family; financial hardships of time off from work for the patient and their spouse, medical expenses, childcare and the travel to and from treatment. Recently a volunteer from the American Cancer Society stopped to speak with Kate during treatment and supplied a wealth of information and services that can surely help many people. Additionally Kate has become increasingly aware of the staggering number of breast cancer diagnoses in women in her community and even other young mothers like her. She knows how much this disease turns lives upside down so there is a definite need for more research to help stop cancer from wreaking havoc on families day in and day out. We are fighting for team Udders and we are fighting for Kate!
