For nearly 50 years, I have spent every birthday celebrating the Boston Marathon so it only fitting that I get "over the hill" by getting over Heartbreak Hill on the occasion of my 50th.
I have been chosen this year by BMC to run as part of their team and am very excited about the opportunity. While I am not your average runner, I am confident that the "wind be at my back" as I fight for the finish line. I don't expect to break any records but I do hope to raise a lot of money for the BMC's SPARK Center located on River Street in Mattapan. I have been involved with the program for more than two decades. There are lots of great causes out there and many of you have supported me in the past as I raised funds for very important causes.
I will be making the 26.2 mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston on April 15, 2013 in memory of my dad, Eddie; my father in law, John; a dear friend from BMC, Paul Drew; an angel from SPARK, Dennis Lucyniak and sadly, in memory of a family friend Mary Reed who recently lost her battle to cancer. What these people all had in common was their willingness to help others quietly! I hope to honor them on Marathon Monday and raise the much needed funds for this incredible program. It is dollars like these that get this done quietly!
No matter how little you think you can do, together we can do alot! Please reach in your hearts and your wallets and do what you can!
I hope to see you on race day but if you cannot join me, please keep me in your thoughts!
With much love and gratitude,
