EVENT DATE: Oct 27, 2013
I am excited to tell you about an event I am training for this Fall. I am running my first marathon- The Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. This marathon is a perfect opportunity for me to support a cause near and dear to me: AANMA which stands for the Allergy and Asthma Network- Mothers of Asthmatics. This important organization supports research and education in the field of allergies and asthma.
Two of my three children, Brynn and Sean, have been treated for allergies since they were babies and both developed asthma by the age of two. They take daily medication to help them breathe better. Witnessing an asthma attack is one of the scariest things I have ever experienced. A doctor once told us an asthma attack is similar to trying to breathe through a tiny straw (ex. a Caprisun straw, cocktail straw, etc). Try it sometime...it is shocking. I am hoping the medical research continues to advance and help people who suffer from asthma.
In the food allergy department, Brynn continues to be vigilant about everything she eats. She is slowly outgrowing her milk and egg allergies! After 10 years of avoiding milk and eggs, we are slowly introducing these foods into her diet and it is so exciting to see her eat pizza, cake, cookies, etc. just like other kids. She is a long way from drinking milk or eating an egg, but any progress is good progress! Brynn will always have her severe peanut allergy, but we can only hope that through research funding there eventually will be a cure.
The Marine Corps Marathon is on October 27, 2013. I have less than 2 months left of my marathon training. I have been training since June and now I am in the high mileage months. I have the ultimate respect for people who run marathons regularly- it is hard work! I try not to take for granted that I'm healthy and I'm able to run. I'm hopeful that my fundraising can help children who suffer from asthma and allergies. I appreciate any support you can provide...it really means so much to my family.
With hope and gratitude,
